Arrow Farming code for leavers, Autokick for afkers

I think leavers and afkers have to be up in there in the most annoying things about guild wars (and of course the trade system ) the amount of people the leave missions and afk in pvp is just crazy. The amount of my time that gets wasted by these idiots is unacceptable.

From what I gather from the farming code (all rumour of course), the more you do the same area the less chance you have at getting good drops, I think this becomes worse if you only kill a few mobs > leave > restart. So by these people leaving all the time, I am actually getting punished for their idiocy in two ways… Time and loot.

There needs to be some kind of deterrent to fix this.

So if someone leaves the mission by, by map travel, alt+f4, clicking the X, they would get a hint saying "If you leave your party prematurely your drop rate will go down" At this point it would only serve as a warning and their drop rate would remain the same, but if they continued to leave games it would kick in. By making it so it would only kick in if you left the game in those certain ways, it should not punish people for disconnecting.... although I'm not sure if the game could determine the difference between deliberate game termination or an error (maybe that’s the flaw in my idea). Obviously for this to work effectively the leaders of parties would need more control on resigning the team and the resign system it's self would need some work, like maybe a voting system?

As for afkers / leachers in pvp... it's very simple, auto kick them for say 5 mins of inactivity and replace them with another random person who is waiting for a game. There are always people who will macro, but that can be solved too by looking at the damage they take /and actions they take against other players. I’m really not sure why Guild Wars does not auto kick afkers anyway Most other online rpgs do? Surely it would help server loads etc.

This is really something I was just thinking of today… so there are probably going to be many things I have not thought through. I'm just putting it out there.

PS. I know PUG’s suck already, please try to stay away from that debate

People do have to leave or go afk for reasons other than 'I want a free ride or free stuff'. And although it is annoying to have people leave when they get their skill capped, want to afk and get freebee faction, etc. there are also legitimate reasons for going afk; such as getting the door, answering the phone, or attending other obligations. Added to that the reasons for leaving a group can be just as complicated; perhaps the person knows they're going to be afk for a long time and simply leave the group, or perhaps the person is just sick of having to put up with people in the group who do 'stupid' things while playing the game.

I think that punishing people for either leaving or simply going afk presumes that there is some malicious intent behind their action. And until that malicious intent can be proven then acting in haste could prove to do more harm than good.

I wonder what people are doing that they allways end up with leechers, leavers and afkers. No flame intended, just wondering. The only leechers i ever met were in Aspenwood (that place however is pretty much run by leechers). The solutions to afkers and leechers is a quite easy one. Funnily enough, your suggestion will penalize the only real solution to that: Leave them standing.

As far as leavers are concerned I always try to contact them to see if it was intentional or not. At times I have been Dconned and I always(if I can remember the names of the players I was with) try to ontact them when that happens. As far as someone goig afk, NC-Soft has made it so they get no exp or drops if they are a certian distance from the fights. This alone won't get rid of afk players but it is a bit of assurance that they now wont get as much exp or any good drops during missions. Doing hese 2 things has shown that NC-Soft knows about the problem and are at least trying something.
Most players that I have had the pleasure to have good teams with will let the rest of the group know they have to go afk for a minute or so, that is only polite. But you still have the few who are a pain and they can make the game quite unbearable. The only suggetion that I have for you is to try to pick a group of friends, or at least be a bit more careful on who you take with you. A good group is hard to come by, a group that will work together is harder. Just have fun and hope to get a good group.

Locking this thread, and all the other "Fix Leavers" threads in Sardelac, for the time being. When the new system is revealed, we'll look at it, look at these threads, and see if they need reopened or not. Until then, let's all be patient and see what we get.
